Privacy at a glance

• Floatlane has no user accounts, advertising, tracking, analytics, or telemetry.
• Floatlane contains no code that sends extension-derived browsing or media data to Cosinus or to an extension-operated server.
• Floatlane opens Picture-in-Picture only after you explicitly choose a Float action.
• Video detection, Picture-in-Picture controls, and playback-speed controls run locally on your device.
• One user preference may be stored and synchronized by your browser.
• Temporary operational state is stored only within the browser session so that Floatlane can identify and control the correct video.
• Cosinus does not sell or share personal information collected through Floatlane.
• You install and use Floatlane at your own risk.
• To the maximum extent permitted by law, Cosinus assumes no responsibility for any loss, damage, malfunction, incompatibility, account restriction, service interruption, or other problem arising from or relating to Floatlane.

Information Floatlane processes

1. Website and video-player information processed locally

To provide its core functionality, Floatlane runs on regular http:// and https:// webpages, including embedded frames.

Floatlane locally:

• detects standard HTML5 <video> elements;
• determines whether a video is available, ready, playing, floating, or restricted from Picture-in-Picture;
• reads and changes the video’s playback rate when you use a speed control;
• estimates the visible size of video elements so that it can select the intended player;
• derives a general provider label, such as “YouTube” or “Netflix,” from the current hostname; and
• uses browser-provided tab, frame, and document identifiers to route commands to the correct player.

Floatlane may also detect whether it is running in Brave so that it can present relevant compatibility guidance.

This processing may locally indicate that a recognized streaming service is open. However, Floatlane does not record the exact page URL or send this information to Cosinus.

Floatlane does not collect or transmit:

• video or audio content;
• page text, form entries, search terms, or passwords;
• browsing or viewing history;
• account, identity, financial, health, or precise location information;
• advertising identifiers; or
• usage analytics or telemetry.

2. User preference

Floatlane stores the following setting using the browser’s extension storage:

• whether the on-video Float control is shown.

This setting may be synchronized across browsers signed in to the same browser profile.

Such synchronization is operated by your browser provider, such as Google or Brave, under that provider’s own terms and privacy policy. Cosinus does not operate the synchronization service and does not receive this preference.

3. Temporary operational state

During a browser session, Floatlane stores a temporary registry containing browser-generated tab, frame, and document identifiers together with limited media status.

This limited media status may include:

• video availability;
• playback state;
• Picture-in-Picture state;
• playback rate;
• provider label; and
• a player-selection score.

This temporary state is used only to identify and control the appropriate video.

It is removed when the relevant tab closes or reloads, is cleared when the browser session ends, and is pruned when stale after no more than six hours within the session.

4. Information you choose to provide

If you contact Cosinus for support, feedback, a security report, or a privacy request, we receive the contact information and message content you choose to provide.

We may use that information to:

• respond to your request;
• investigate technical or security issues;
• maintain appropriate support and business records;
• protect Floatlane, Cosinus, and users;
• resolve disputes;
• enforce applicable agreements; and
• comply with legal obligations.

Information submitted through the Cosinus website is handled under the Cosinus corporate privacy policy linked above.

How information is used

The limited local and browser-stored information described above is used only to:

• detect and select an HTML5 video player;
• open and manage Picture-in-Picture;
• provide playback-speed controls;
• show accurate status and compatibility guidance;
• remember your setting;
• route commands to the appropriate video; and
• diagnose and respond to support or security issues when you contact us.

Floatlane’s handling of user data is limited to providing, maintaining, securing, and improving its single-purpose video-floating functionality.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use compliance

The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Floatlane uses information accessed through browser extension APIs only as necessary to provide or improve its disclosed single-purpose functionality.

Floatlane does not use such information for:

• personalized or behavioral advertising;
• creating or enriching advertising profiles;
• creditworthiness or lending decisions;
• data-broker activities;
• selling user data; or
• purposes unrelated to Floatlane’s disclosed functionality.

Browser permissions

Floatlane requests only the permissions needed for its features.

Website access

Access to regular http:// and https:// webpages lets Floatlane:

• find HTML5 video players;
• add the optional on-video Float control;
• determine the status of a video; and
• control the selected video.

Broad website access is necessary because Floatlane is designed to work across major streaming services and other websites that use standard HTML5 video players.

Floatlane does not use this access to build a browsing profile, collect page content for unrelated purposes, or inject advertising.

Storage

The storage permission is used to:

• save the preference described above; and
• maintain temporary browser-session state used to route video controls.

When the manual-only version of Floatlane is installed or updated, Floatlane may also remove the legacy automatic-floating preference previously used by an older version.

Scripting

The scripting permission is used when you click Float this video in the toolbar popup.

It immediately invokes Floatlane’s already-installed local controller in the selected video frame so that the browser can associate the Picture-in-Picture request with your click.

When updating from a version that supported automatic floating, the same local browser API may be used once to remove Floatlane’s legacy automatic Picture-in-Picture handler from already-open regular webpages.

Floatlane does not use this permission to download or execute remote code.

Data disclosure, sale, and advertising

Cosinus does not receive extension-derived browsing or media data.

Floatlane does not sell, rent, license, disclose, or share extension-derived browsing or media data with third parties.

Floatlane does not use information for:

• advertising;
• cross-site tracking;
• credit decisions;
• lending;
• data-broker activities; or
• building user or browsing profiles.

The websites you visit, your browser provider, browser synchronization services, streaming providers, and browser extension marketplaces operate independently from Floatlane.

Those third parties may process installation, update, synchronization, diagnostic, streaming, account, marketplace, or other data under their own terms and privacy policies.

Floatlane does not control and is not responsible for those third parties or their data practices.

Floatlane is not affiliated with, sponsored by, endorsed by, or officially connected with any streaming service or third-party website it supports unless expressly stated otherwise.

Data retention and deletion

User preference

The user preference remains in browser-managed extension storage until you change or clear it.

Synced copies, if any, are retained and deleted according to your browser provider’s rules.

Temporary operational state

Temporary operational state is limited to the current browser session.

It is removed when the relevant tab closes or reloads, cleared when the browser session ends, and pruned when stale as described above.

Support communications

Support and privacy communications may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to:

• respond to your request;
• maintain appropriate business records;
• investigate technical, fraud, abuse, or security issues;
• resolve disputes;
• enforce agreements; and
• comply with legal obligations.

Cosinus keeps no server-side copy of Floatlane’s browser preference or temporary operational state.

You can remove locally stored extension data by uninstalling Floatlane and, where supported, clearing extension or synchronization data through your browser settings.

Security

Floatlane minimizes its use of information and does not operate a backend service for extension-derived browsing or media data.

Cosinus uses reasonable technical and organizational measures for information that Cosinus actually receives, such as support communications.

However, no extension, software, device, browser, website, internet connection, or storage method is completely secure or error-free.

Cosinus does not warrant or guarantee that Floatlane will be free from:

• vulnerabilities;
• defects;
• bugs;
• errors;
• interruptions;
• unauthorized interference;
• data loss;
• incompatibility; or
• other security or technical problems.

You are responsible for maintaining appropriate device security, browser security, backups, account protections, and software updates.

Children’s privacy

Floatlane is a general-purpose browser utility and is not directed to children under 13 or the higher minimum age required in a user’s jurisdiction.

Cosinus does not knowingly collect children’s personal information through Floatlane.

If you believe that a child has directly provided personal information to Cosinus, please contact us so that we can review and appropriately address the request.

Your privacy choices and rights

You can:

• disable Floatlane features in its settings;
• clear browser-managed extension data;
• disable browser synchronization where supported; or
• uninstall Floatlane at any time.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding personal information held by Cosinus, including rights to request:

• access;
• correction;
• deletion;
• restriction of processing; or
• information about how the information is used.

Because Floatlane does not send extension-derived browsing or media data to Cosinus, we generally have no Floatlane browsing or media records that we can identify, access, correct, or delete.

For support communications or other information you have provided directly to Cosinus, submit a request using the contact details below.

We may need to verify your identity or request as required or permitted by law.

International use

Cosinus is based in Japan.

Floatlane’s local operational data is not transferred to Cosinus.

If you contact us, your communication may be processed in Japan and in other locations used by our service providers, subject to applicable law and safeguards.

By contacting Cosinus from outside Japan, you acknowledge that your communication may be processed in a country whose data-protection laws may differ from those of your location.

Disclaimer of warranties

Floatlane is provided free of charge on an “as is,” “as available,” and “with all faults” basis.

Your installation and use of Floatlane are entirely at your own discretion and risk.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Cosinus makes no representations or warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise, regarding Floatlane.

Without limiting the foregoing, Cosinus does not warrant that Floatlane will:

• operate continuously or without interruption;
• be available at any particular time;
• be free of errors, defects, bugs, vulnerabilities, or harmful components;
• work with every browser, browser version, operating system, device, website, embedded frame, video player, or streaming service;
• successfully open or maintain Picture-in-Picture;
• preserve playback state, playback speed, user settings, or other information;
• avoid conflicts with other extensions, browser settings, websites, security software, or device configurations;
• remain available following changes made by a browser provider, website, streaming service, marketplace, or other third party;
• satisfy your particular needs or expectations; or
• produce accurate, complete, reliable, or suitable status or compatibility guidance.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Cosinus disclaims all implied warranties, including warranties of merchantability, satisfactory quality, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, quiet enjoyment, availability, security, and compatibility.

No information, communication, documentation, or support provided by Cosinus creates any warranty unless expressly stated in a written agreement signed by Cosinus.

Assumption of risk and user responsibility

You are solely responsible for deciding whether to install, enable, configure, update, continue using, disable, or uninstall Floatlane.

You assume all risks arising from or relating to Floatlane, including risks involving:

• browser instability;
• website or video-player malfunction;
• loss of playback position or settings;
• interruption of video or audio;
• increased device resource usage;
• conflicts with other extensions or software;
• account warnings, restrictions, suspension, or termination;
• loss of access to a website or service;
• loss, corruption, or disclosure of data;
• security vulnerabilities;
• device or browser damage;
• inability to access content;
• violations of third-party terms or policies; and
• other direct or indirect consequences.

You are responsible for determining whether your use of Floatlane complies with:

• applicable laws and regulations;
• copyright and other intellectual-property rights;
• website and streaming-service terms;
• access restrictions;
• employment, school, or organizational policies; and
• any contractual obligations applicable to you.

Floatlane does not grant you any right to access, copy, record, download, reproduce, modify, distribute, display, or otherwise use video, audio, or other content beyond the rights granted by the relevant rights holder or applicable law.

You must stop using and uninstall Floatlane if you do not accept these risks.

Third-party services and changes

Browsers, websites, streaming services, video players, browser extension marketplaces, operating systems, and other third-party products may change their:

• technologies;
• interfaces;
• policies;
• access controls;
• security measures;
• account rules;
• Picture-in-Picture functionality; or
• extension support

at any time and without notice to Cosinus.

Such changes may temporarily or permanently limit, disable, alter, or prevent Floatlane from working.

Cosinus has no control over and assumes no responsibility for:

• third-party content;
• third-party availability;
• third-party security;
• third-party data processing;
• third-party account decisions;
• website or browser changes;
• playback restrictions;
• digital-rights-management restrictions;
• geographical restrictions;
• subscription requirements; or
• any other act or omission of a third party.

Cosinus is not obligated to modify, update, maintain, repair, or continue providing Floatlane in response to any third-party change.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Cosinus and its directors, officers, employees, contractors, agents, affiliates, successors, and licensors shall have no liability whatsoever for any claim, loss, damage, cost, expense, obligation, or other consequence arising out of or relating to:

• the installation, use, misuse, inability to use, disabling, or removal of Floatlane;
• any error, defect, bug, vulnerability, interruption, delay, failure, incompatibility, or malfunction;
• any browser, website, video player, streaming service, operating system, marketplace, or third-party change;
• any loss, corruption, alteration, disclosure, or unavailability of data, settings, accounts, content, or access;
• any account warning, restriction, suspension, or termination;
• any violation or alleged violation of a law, contract, website policy, streaming-service policy, or third-party right;
• any action taken or not taken in reliance on Floatlane or information provided in connection with Floatlane; or
• any other matter connected with Floatlane.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Cosinus shall not be liable for any:

• indirect damages;
• incidental damages;
• special damages;
• consequential damages;
• exemplary damages;
• punitive damages;
• loss of profits;
• loss of revenue;
• loss of business;
• loss of business opportunity;
• loss of goodwill;
• loss of anticipated savings;
• loss of data;
• loss of content;
• loss of account access;
• device or software damage;
• business interruption; or
• cost of replacement products or services,

regardless of the legal theory asserted and even if Cosinus was advised of the possibility of such loss or damage.

Your sole and exclusive remedy for dissatisfaction with Floatlane is to stop using it and uninstall it.

Nothing in this policy excludes or limits liability to the extent that such liability cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under applicable law.

This includes liability arising from Cosinus’s intentional misconduct or gross negligence where applicable law prohibits its exclusion or limitation.

Where Cosinus’s liability cannot be completely excluded but may lawfully be limited:

1. Cosinus shall be responsible only for direct and ordinary damages that you actually and reasonably incur;
2. Cosinus shall not be responsible for special, indirect, consequential, incidental, or unforeseeable damages; and
3. to the maximum extent permitted by law, Cosinus’s total aggregate liability shall not exceed the greater of:

• the amount you paid directly to Cosinus specifically for Floatlane during the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim; or
• JPY 1,000.

These limitations apply to the maximum extent permitted by law, regardless of whether a remedy fails of its essential purpose.

No obligation to provide or continue the service

Cosinus may, at its discretion and without liability:

• change Floatlane;
• add or remove features;
• stop supporting a browser, website, or service;
• suspend distribution;
• discontinue Floatlane;
• remove Floatlane from a marketplace; or
• stop providing updates, maintenance, compatibility fixes, or support.

Cosinus does not guarantee that any previous or current version of Floatlane will remain available.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect product, legal, security, or operational changes.

We will update the dates at the top of this policy and, when appropriate, provide additional notice through the extension listing, the Cosinus website, or another reasonable channel.

We will update this policy and any required marketplace disclosures before releasing a change that materially expands Floatlane’s data practices.

Your continued use of Floatlane after an updated policy becomes effective constitutes your acknowledgment of the updated policy to the extent permitted by applicable law.

If you do not agree with an updated policy, you must stop using and uninstall Floatlane.

Governing law and jurisdiction

Except where mandatory law provides otherwise, this policy and any dispute arising out of or relating to Floatlane shall be governed by the laws of Japan, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, the Tokyo District Court shall have exclusive jurisdiction as the court of first instance over any dispute arising out of or relating to Floatlane or this policy.

Nothing in this section deprives a consumer of any mandatory protection or jurisdictional right that cannot lawfully be waived.
